How often should I have my piano tuned?

Most pianos should be tuned at least once or twice a year. If your piano is played regularly, twice a year is ideal. Churches and venues that use their piano frequently may benefit from tuning every three to four months.

How long does a piano tuning take?

A standard tuning typically takes about one to one and a half hours. If your piano hasn’t been tuned in several years, it may need a pitch raise first, which can add some time. I’ll always let you know upfront.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Not much! Just make sure the area around your piano is accessible and reasonably quiet during the appointment. I’ll take care of everything else.

What if my piano hasn’t been tuned in a long time?

No need to be embarrassed — it happens more often than you’d think! If your piano is significantly out of tune, it may need a pitch raise before the final tuning. I’ll assess it when I arrive and walk you through exactly what’s needed and what it will cost before I do anything.

Are you certified?

Yes. I've been a full-time piano technician since 1987 — decades of daily, hands-on work. I hold two formal degrees, one in Piano Tuning & Repair and another in Rebuilding & Restoration, and I was trained by an exceptional mentor who gave me a foundation no classroom alone can provide.
